Wow... We are really behind the curve on this one. We still use the old
F/A Report Writer and are actually quite happy with it.

I agree with Vanessa - you cannot beat FRx. I'm in the process of
learning
it myself and I have a few customers using it. It is very easy to use.
Some features I think are particularly valuable that you cannot find in
any
other package I know of is - you can integrate Excel spreadsheets into
reports - good for reporting actual vs. forecast or actual vs. budget. You
can also set up reports to run in a sequence and be e-mailed to a certain
distribution list. Takes accounting out of the making copies business.
Those are my thoughts. I don't know how pricy it is - but it sure is
slick.

Here is the response from our controller on this:

I have used Financial Statement Utility for over 10 years. The main
function was to have six columns (Current Month: Actual, Budget, Last
Year;
Year to Date: Actual, Budget, Last Year)in the financial statements where
Mapics only allowed for two. FSU works very well, but is slightly
cumbersome in the initial setup.

However, in the last year, I have been experimenting with Access and have
easily succeeded in recreating expenses in the six columns. It will be
more
difficult to program the income accounts but I will not be renewing FSU
because I plan to recreate all the FSU reports in Access.

Take a look at FRx. It's a fantastic report writing package that is very
easy to learn because it's very "Excel-like". Plus it's very flexible and
can handle integrating spreadsheet information into your financials (like
headcount or budgets and forecasts).

Best regards,
Vanessa

Mike,

I with Momentum Utilities. We author Jacana/InformationWorkplace (IWP) -
the MAPICS reporting tool.

IWP is a knowledge based tool that can report over all areas of your
MAPICS
data base. The Jacana Subsets to report over AM Financials (AR, AP and
GL)
can be downloaded from our web-site free of charge to IWP users. Using
these Subset, Jacana can quickly and easily produce all kinds of reporting
over AM financials.

If you would like to know more about Jacana and IWP, talk with your MAPICS
Affiliate or e-mail me directly - we'd be happy to help.

Regards,

Bernard

To all that may want to know,

Our company has a product called ControllerVision(r). The product
interfaces with both Mapics AM and IFM and is a user friendly easy to
use tool for financial reporting and consolidations. Currently the
product is used world wide by approximately 300 companies either as
ControllerVision or as part of our Power Ledger application.

The user can design reports that go up to 30 columns across the page,
includes over 580 predefined column specifications, stores 2 budgets
plus next years budget, allows you to close the year and continue
reporting, allows prior year adjustments, supports multiple years of
reporting; i.e. 5 years ago including inquiry into prior years. It
includes the support of statistical accounts for cost accounting. A true
trial balance is included as well as a budgeting module. At run time the
user can run up to 99 different statements from a single request.

An interface between Excel and the product can be purchased separately
for uploading budgets into the product.

For 5 years the product was marketed by Mapics. Mapics also used the
product for years to do their own financial reporting and worldwide
consolidations.

Hope this will help you.
