You do not need a dedicated printer (contrary to some vendors statements). The only requirement is for magnetic toner if you are going to print the micr information. Any of the third party electronic forms software companies should be able to print checks (some with more sophistication than others. The layout of the check is dependent on if you want a single stub with a check on the top or bottom, or if you want a check in the middle with two stubs; one on top and one on bottom. Further, consider if your business application is printing stub overflow in the same spool file as the check or if it placed into a separate spool file. Does your software application place the account number, check number, etc. into the spool file or are these going to be pre printed on check stock. Be sure to get check stock that is copy protected (if a photocopy of the check stock is made, the word "VOID" should appear all over the thing. Any advise as to form layout? Is a dedicated printer needed or has anyone done it with a multi-bin printer? We would like to have just the one printer in accounting. Any other gotchas?
