I would think it would look like this: Define Result Fields Type definitions using field names or constants and operators, press Enter. Operators: +, -, *, /, SUBSTR, ||, DATE... Field Expression Column Heading Len Dec EMPNO 0 + 0 Employee Number 5 0 Have I missed something? What were you planning on putting in this field since the data does not reside in the first file? -----Original Message----- From: Al Gershen [mailto:aldg1@charter.net] Sent: Wednesday, September 11, 2002 8:07 PM To: MAPICS Mailing List Cc: Gershen, Al Subject: Query/400: How do you create a numeric field with specific characteristics? Hi Mapics ML: I am trying to write a new Query (let's call it Query # 2) that takes data from an input DB file and outputs the result by adding records to an existing output DB file. (The existing DB file was created by Query # 1.) One of the fields from the output DB File is a "numeric" field with the following characteristics: Name: EMPNO Text: EMPLOYEE NUMBER Len: 5 Dec: 0 Using Define Result Fields, how do I create a "numeric" field in Query # 2 that has the same characteristics as shown above? (The DB input file used for Query # 2 does not have a EMPNO field so I assume that Define Results Field is the only way to create this field using Query/400.) If you need any additional information, please let me know through the Mapics ML. I look forward to your suggestions and comments.
