We've incorporated the following user exit into our solution for this
problem.

UMBCOD4R    API: Item validation CO Execute extern

We created a relationship between customer and sales groups.  The sales
groups are related to parts or groups of parts.   We're using this for the
green screen as well as our B2B site.  This has also prevented customers
from being able to purchase non-sellable items in our item master.
