As part of the routing for the MO, we have established a work center that is called "outside processing". This can also be setup for a specific source. We send items out for plating to one specific supplier, so we set a work center and named it for that company. Within that operation we can account for move time, allow fixed standard hours, and can also assign a purchase order for the processing. How does Mapics address the following Business process: Item Number: OR6205 Description: Ring Raw Material: Iron Rod Manufacturing Operations: 1. Turning - In house 2. Heat Treatment - In house 3. Face & OD Grinding - Outside Party Operation 4. Groove Grinding - Outside Party Operation 5. Honing - In house 6. Etching - In house 7. Assembly - In house A manufacturing order is raised on OR6205, i.e. MO52400. Raw material i.e. Iron Rod is issued to this MO. After turning & heat treatment the ring is sent for outside processing. Ground rings are then processed in house. How do I account for the outside party operation i.e. Labor charges? Note that sometimes the outside party operations can be done in house. At any point in time, Information of inventory at the vendor is also desirable. Is it a MUST to have different part numbers for OR6205? I would appreciate your response on this issue.
