Very interesting thought. I am currently in the process of justifying our 50K ALF for MAPICS. I am putting the figures together on the ROI of dumping MAPICS for another package. We have very little mod's and not using Mapics to it's full potential. It's a shame, since Mapics has been in this company since v2 on the 36. Not that I'm against Mapics, I had a very successful installation of V2 on a 36 back in '88 and I know given time I could make it useful here, I just can't mentally nor financially justify 50K a year for a small company. Is there a standard to the ALF? Ours is currently 43.7% of the ILF signed in '99 when they upgraded to a 720. Had an increase of 13.4% in 2000 and an increase of 3.9% currently. I suggested that he may want to look into downsizing his AS/400 to a large 270 and only run MAPICS on it, keeping his 720 for all other applications (Lotus Notes, Web serving, etc.). The two machines could then be connected and made to appear somewhat seemless to the users. The 270 would be more than paid for in the reduction in ALF. Does anyone know of any company that has done this? If yes, we would like to speak with them about it (good or bad). Thanks... Eric A.
