Keith -

Yes, I use Monarch all the time - I have been a user for over 10 years on
several different computer systems. (Anyone remember the PR1ME computers?)

Great tool. The mechanics are simple - take any spool file (or PC print or
text file, for that matter - we "Monarch" (what fun to verb a noun) a PC
report daily into an Excel spreadsheet, which we load into the IM
transaction off-line load file to update MAPICS inventory). Monarch parses
out the line - similar to what you can do with Excel's text parser, but you
can have multiple lines defined in a "model" as a single "detail" line. You
can also parse into your data record information from headers, footers and
summary lines, as needed. Monarch comes with a tutorial, but I can show a
programmer or power user how to create report models in less than 5 minutes
- it is that easy!

Do you have InfoWorkPlace for MAPICS? While you don't need IWP to use
Monarch, Momentum through MAPICS also sells ValetMiner, which is, in fact,
Monarch, and includes a neat utility called PrepP which allows you to "grab"
a spool file off the AS/400 without trouble. PrepP also comes with
JacanaForms.

Check out www.jacana.com for info on IWP, ValetMiner, JacanaForms and other
products, which have all been integrated with MAPICS.

Is anybody using Monarch to get information from
MAPICS reports? If yes, what are the mechanics behind
it? How do you link to the MAPICS report?

Thanks,
