We are running MAPICS 5.0 PR and have been since November of '99. Initially, the calcs and reports took a looong time to run (45 minutes for 300 employees) so Payroll was always up against the time crunch to get out the checks. MAPICS support said that a few companies mentioned that they experienced the same problem but it couldn't be narrowed down. It ended up being our model 300. We upgraded ,for several reasons, to a 720 and it flies! Calcs take 5 minutes now. But anyway, we find that it is a very adequate P/R system for our needs and we have some varied needs. We have the standard salary and hourly but we also have piecework employees (homegrown code and offline file loads), Medicare reimbursements and some special retiree benefits that are all processed through MAPICS. We did move 4 or 5 of our highly paid people out to ADP but there is no interface setup. But 401k, direct deposit, tax tables, etc all work well. We were lucky enough to have a consultant with tons of MAPICS P/R experience on hand when we installed it and she helped us with some of the functionality that just isn't very apparent from reading the manuals. ADP Forwarded by moderator on behalf of Richard Bryant <rbryant@quipp.com>: ------------------------------------------------------------------ Hi Group, Our HR person believes that MAPICS payroll is no good and wants to replace it with ADP. I know that MAPICS payroll might have some minor drawbacks but do not believe we should shut it down and go with an outside payroll processing company. It seems that no one has been trained on MAPICS payroll and the information on how to process payroll has been handed down from the last three employees over the past 18 months. We are also tracking time via data collectors and updating payroll automatically via PCM and an in house developed program. I have also suggested that we look into an HR package from Optimum Solutions as an add on to give the HR person the tools she may need. Two questions: 1) Is anyone using a payroll processing company with MAPICS installed and if so, which one? 2) What are your feelings about MAPICS payroll? Richard Bryant Quipp Systems Inc.
