Forwarded by moderator on behalf of Eric Wolf (eric_a_wolf@hotmail.com): -------------------------------------------------- Steve, While I believe it is appropriate and necessary to keep the system up-to-date technology-wise, I am concerned that the use of annual license fees are being primarily committed to newer applications. When MAPICS announces these enhancements to the Client Architecture, for example, the customer's who paid for that development, cannot have the application unless they pay handsomely for it. Isn't the annual licence fee actually an "Annual Maintenance, Support and Use" fee? Why then, do the customers who already have MAPICS have to pay for these "upgrades", when they should be included as a PTF to their existing applications? Keep in mind, MAPICS Client Architecture applications CANNOT exist without the original base modules. In addition, due to some design performance issues, customers may be required to upgrade their AS/400 (i-Series) which incurs a MAPICS upgrade charge. All you receive is a license key - nothing else. You may see more customers buying seperate machines to just to run their ERP system and bridging to the larger machine for other functions (email, Lotus, Web, etc.). Isn't this a step backward in technology? Eric A.
