Pending Manufacturing Allocatons, Without MRP

Mapics Environment:  DB or Y2K, Mod 4
Modules incl: Inventory Management (IM), Product Data Management (PDM), Order 
Entry & Invoicing (OE&I), and Production Control & Costing (PC&C) (We don't 
have Material Requirement Planning (MRP))

Hi Mapics ML:

One of our purchasing persons asked me about the field, Pending Manufacturing 
Allocated (MPALC + PALOC) that appears as "Pend Alloc" on the Item Balance 
Inquiry screen (AMI1B1).  

He was hoping it could be used to assist him in knowing the needs of raw 
materials that relate to firm Customer Orders where the Manufacturing Order 
hasn't been released yet because our Engineering Dept is still doing their 
thing (Bill of Materials, Labor Routings, etc.) in PDM.

First, knowing that we don't have the MRP module, I looked into our ITEMBL file 
and found that the field, MPALC (Pending Manufacturing Allocations), "isn't" 
populated on any of our ITEMBL records.

Next, using the Mapics Support website, I found ID # 11.0.293964.2170974, 
titled, "Update to Pending manufacturing allocations field, MPALC in the ITEMBL 
file," that tells the following:

"Pending manufacturing allocations, MPALC, is updated by manufacturing orders 
with B/M = NOW or KEY that have not yet been released. 
          
Other related fields include: 
    MALQT, Manufacturing allocated quantity - the allocated quantity for 
released manufacturing orders 
    PLREQ, Pick list requirements - customer order allocations 
    PALOC, Quantity pending release - used by MRP for planned orders. 
    FALQT, Future allocation quantity - manufacturing allocations that fall 
outside the MRP time fence. 
              ( This field is included in MALQT )."

I have questions related to the Mapics Support Message:

1. "MPALC, is updated by manufacturing orders with B/M = NOW or KEY that have 
not yet been released."

This suggests that it is possible to update the MPALC field.  But in our 
system, no populating is being done.  Does the Mapics statement only apply to 
systems with MRP?

2. "...manufacturing orders with B/M = NOW or KEY..."

What does "B/M = NOW or KEY" mean?  Is this some flag or field in MOMAST 
(Manufacturing Order Master) or some related file that triggers the updating of 
MPALC?

3. "( This field is included in MALQT )."

What field is Mapics Support referring to: MPALC or FALQT or somthing else.

All in all, I'm very confused with the wording of the Mapics Support messge and 
I hope that some of the Mapics ML members can give me some clarification so I 
can advise our Purchasing person correctly on this matter.
