Hi Mapics ML:

My employer just had me sign up for a Mapics Business Academy class titled
"Costing Functions in Mapics." This is a 4 1/2 day class that will cost the
company $2000 plus travel expenses.

I contacted Mapics about the class and was advised that they teach their
courses using PowerPoint screen presentations. Their class manual is
essentially a copy of the PowerPoint screens from which the student can write
their own comments.

Therefore, it appears to me that if you are not able to retain the course
materials either in your mind or with your class notes, you may be "out of
luck" when it comes to referring to your manual later on.

Now I can't comment on the materials that are presented with PowerPoint. It's
very possible that they are very detailed and as such, they are a very good
substitute for a properly written textbook on the subject of Mapics Costing.

I have found on the Barnes and Noble website a 1992 $45.00 book titled,
"Accountant's Guide to the Mapics - DB Financial Applications," written by
Robert Tenny and Alicia Hart. The vendor's description of this book is very
limited and I can't tell whether it even covers Mapics Costing.

My background is as a CPA in public and private accounting. I don't have much
cost accounting experience and I have never experienced a Mapics environment
until now.

I have several questions for the Mapics ML:

1. What is your experience with Mapics classes and their PowerPoint
presentations?

2. Is their text adequate to cover the course subject?

3. If you have any experience with the book mentioned above, do you believe it
to be a reasonable substitute for learning Mapics Costing instead of going to
the Mapics class?

I look forward to reading your comments.

Regards......
