I too was surprised at the volume of PTFs and the regularity that they are
made available. I tried to keep up on all of them as they became available
and, as you noted, it seemed to absorb a little too much of my schedule.

I monitor the content of the PTFs for special-situations and module
requisites to see if they would even apply to our situation, then wait for
up to 10 days to download the fix. On more than one occasion, the PTF has
been held or recalled (hopefully not at the expense of any of my fellow
field beta-testers!). The same caution should be used on Cumulative PTFs...
the most recent (SH13289 / PTF1785) was immediatly recalled due to
euro-currency problems.

As far as potential pre-reqs go, it's a crap-shoot. I've applied PTFs with
the intent of preventing a potential problem and triggered the error that it
was designed to fix. ALWAYS have a backup copy of your production AMA*/AMF*
libraries before applying any PTF... it has saved me on more than one
occasion when I needed to back-level the fix.
