Could be a JVM issue. I assume you start it with the shell script. Any debug/error output or does it just stop responding?

I don't have an HMC to test on but my money would be on the JVM. Any idea which IBM JVM (assumed) is installed?

I use tn5250j, because I can get it to change the enter key to the right ctrl key. I just don't see any real speed or performance issues with it, but I generally do not use it for editing files, debugging or even applications, only for commands. But I do more systems work than programming.

However, for some reason (maybe one of you know) tn5250j doesn't seem to work with the console through an HMC. It chokes up after the system selection panel.

But... tn5250 (applied to Fedora through yum) while it doesn't let me map the enter key, does actually work properly with the console through an HMC. And since it's in all the packaging tools, I can add it to any Linux desktop and start using it immediately.
