Thanks for your reply. I gave another go to x5250, and remembered why I
had abandoned it, I just couldn't seem to get it installed (on either of
my machines). The first part is the ouput of the "configure" command,
followed by the output of the "make" command. That's where I run into
problems. Your thoughts would be appreciated...

I think I remember seeing these errors before. I believe they are the result of using an older version of tn5250. Could you please run the following command and tell me what it says:

tn5250 -version

If it doesn't say "tn5250 0.17.4" then getting the latest release of tn5250 is the first requirement. In an earlier message you said that you had 0.17.3, 0.17.4, and 0.17.5 from CVS all installed. That sounds like a lot of potential for problems, particularly if you have one version installed in one place (like /usr) and another version installed in another (like /usr/local).

Once tn5250 version 0.17.4 is installed then build x5250 using the source from:

http://www.eaerich.com/x5250-0.5.2-pre4.tar.gz

It should build with no warnings.

if you want to understand why that is, there are many good books on
the design of operating systems. please pass them along to redmond
