This sounds great. I don't think I have much preference for one layout over the other. Your first proposal looks like the modularisation for X, which has had a lot of thought put into it, so it's probably better. I've got a couple of smaller changes that I'd like to get checked in and into a Debian package for work. Can you hold off on making a big change for a few days until I'm done?
