This doesn't sound like something the tn5250 or tn5250e protocols support. At least I haven't seen anything that sounds like what you are describing. To me it sounds like you are looking for something more along the lines of rexec. Like Scott said, I think you want another application to do what you describe. This is how iSeries Access works, btw. When you use it, you are actually running several different programs (that is why you have to have so many ports open on your firewall). Each of those programs do special tasks like data transfer, rexec, and tn5250.
