Does this work with the x keyboard input for the cent character?

I am able to input a cent by using the compose key, |, c. If you don't have a compose key, you can set other keys to be a compose by the command:

setxkbmap -option compose:ralt (right alt is compose)
-option compose:menu (windows "menu" key is compose)
-option compose:caps (caps lock is compose)
-option compose:rwin (right windows key is compose)

x5250 should probably accept this input. In fact, shouldn't the cent character really be handled at this level, rather than directly within x5250?

It should be working both ways. If x5250 receives the XK_cent keysym (which is what is sent using your method) it will return the same results as if Ctrl-c were entered. We do both since not everyone (including me) has this x keyboard input set up. I don't think I even have the X keyboard inputs enabled in my X config.

Though I believe that the method you describe is preferable.
