This appears to be caused by the AC_FUNC_MALLOC macro in configure.ac.

Try:
  a) editing configure.ac
  b) comment-out the AC_FUNC_MALLOC line, and
  c) re-run ./autogen.sh and ./configure

Please let us know if that solves the problem.
