I agree with your assumption.  You would have to have some way to write it
there, which is why I haven't tried to prove the theory.

I'm guessing /var gets mounted on flash (/dev/hdb).  And there are symlinks for
some other files/dirs that put them on flash.

FYI, telnet says "Escape is 'off'" and will not let you key ^] (ssh doesn't tell
you that, but also doesn't work.)

Likewise, I know there is bash, but no way to run it.

OT: any idea why there are extra keys on the keyboard and print screen, scroll
lock, pause are moved down?  Just curious...
