Thanks.  I appreciate the offer and the advice.  My learning methodology is to struggle a bit first, then I know what I need to know to make it happen.  So, I'll be in touch.

@david: I don't find return values, it's limited to give back an int - very poor.
@Pete: for this, I would use jt400 ProgramCall. I could send some examples to you offline (I can't make them public). drop me a mail.
