As a follow-up on this thread I found the following old article that lets you easily call a Java class main method with parms from an RPG app and of course the JVM stays active between RPG calls so only one Java startup within the entire job.

Calling a Java Main Method from RPG
http://www.itjungle.com/mgo/mgo082703-story02.html

It's uses a simple Java app call so there's not much complexity or RPG method mapping since all the real code for the Java functionality is in the Java app/program/class.

This approach to calling repetitive Java code via an in-memory JVM would be similar to Dieters App4RPG approach but without the need for a TomCat or other app server running.

It does limit to one classpath and JVM in the job though unless you can replace the classpath in a running JVM.

One more option.
