You can probably inhibit the core dump by using try catch constructs to trap the error and then exiting "elegantly",
However be sure to notify the application that an error has occurred.

I have an RPG program that runs a java program. when there is an error the job performs a core dump. The processes of dumping really eats up system resources.

is there a way to prevent the system from doing a dump?
