Thanks Joe,
you are correct, Dan also pointed to that error
and I am now connected.
I will post a summary of what worked as
extra info to go with the Midrange article
by Thomas Snyder . . .

Subject: Re: 1st install of Squirrel
Hi Gary,
Are you sure you have the Squirrel alias for the AS/400 set up correctly to use the JTOpen driver? This message:
java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: org.apache.derby.jdbc.ClientDriver
sounds like it's trying to use the driver for derby.

Subject: 1st install of Squirrel
I am installing Squirrel using an article by Thomas Snyder from Feb. 2011 "An Open-Source DB2 .
Apparently, the problem mentioned in the article with 64bit java has been fixed and my install of squirrel appears to have worked . . . but I now see errors attempting to connect to DB2 on our system i
In place of the requested URL, I entered the ip address I use for my RDp connection and receive:
"Unexpected Error occurred attempting to open an SQL connection."
Errors look like I have an issue with Java ???:
"java.util.concurrent.ExecutionException: java.lang.RuntimeException:
java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: org.apache.derby.jdbc.ClientDriver"
This is followed by several more messages like:
"at java.util.concurrent.FutureTask$Sync.innerGet(Unknown Source)"
