Hi James,
You might want to look into option on how you start TC server. I believe this should be an option on catalina.sh call
start - starts a tcServer instance as a daemon process
run - starts a tcServer instance as a foreground process
In your example your tomcat 6 probably starts with option 'start' and your tomcat 7 is using option 'run'

Subject: Strangeness with Tomcat 7, vs. Tomcat 6
After some futzing around, we got Tomcat up and running on our V6 box.
It seems to work fine,
EXCEPT:
Strange thing: With Tomcat 6, when I start Tomcat, the "CATALINA" job brings up the server, then ends, leaving the server active.
But with Tomcat 7, when I start it, the "CATALINA" job remains active, and if I abend it, it takes the server with it.
Is this normal? Is there some setting that needs to change? Something in one of the scripts? Something in the CL program that initiates the whole process?
I'm asking the same question a few other places.
