I've seen the "put a policy file on every PC" advice before, and I've
always wondered about that. Can you set it to apply to only one applet,
or is it going to apply to every applet that runs in your browser? If
the latter, that seems like a potential security problem to me.

Yes, the policy file is one of your options. Remember, this option
requires that you set this policy on every PC that the applet might run.
