Bob, thanks for the offer but I don't have any java source code I can send you. I am using a Knowledge Management 4GL development tool that generates the source code and compiled applet. In the toolset I can define a JDBC link to any database as long as I have a jar file with the driver code. It lets me enter the name of the class in the jar and the connection string for the jdbc connection and calls that class when necessary. I have contacted the vendor of this tool to see if they have a way for me to generate the java source code to look at. This toolset lets me run the application from within the tool and from there it works OK. They also have a runtime environment that lets me run the applet outside a browser on my PC and that works OK. They have a runtime environment that lets the applet be run within a browser.

Subject: using jt400 in a java applet

Has anyone ever used the IBM supplied jt400.jar in a java applet application that is sent to the client and executed from the PC? I have a java application that will run from my PC but when I deploy it as an applet it fails with a permissions error. It is acting like the jt400.jar files is trying to run outside the JRE and is being denied permission.
