Trace.setTraceOn(true)

just turns tracing for all enabled trace categories. However, by default,
all trace categories are disabled. Try inserting the following -before- the
above statement:

Trace.setTraceAllOn(true);

Hmm. You learn something new every day.

But alas, all that gets me is:
"Toolbox for Java - Open Source Software, JTOpen 4.2, codebase 5722-JC1
V5R3M0," which just sits there, for at least 5 minutes, until I abend
the program.

In WRKTCPSTS *CNN, I see 2 connections to "as-svrmap," and one each to
"as-signon" and "as-rmtcmd," all sitting in "Time-wait" for a time,
eventually going away without my having to abend the client program
(but
*apparently* doing so immediately, if I do abend it).
