So wait... if I all I want to do is edit some minor java and do RPG/CL
development, there is still no cost?

I'm not touching this with a ten-foot pole. If you're willing to trust
Sun, then Netbeans has a lot of features. I hate the Eclipse vs.
Netbeans fanboy arguments, though. Yeesh.

Trust Sun... compared to, say, trusting IBM not to pull WDSC? or
VisualAge for Java before it?

P.S. The new version of NetBeans (6.1, now in beta) supports WebSphere.

I'm not going to get into a Netbeans vs whatever debate. No way. My
point is simply who do you think is going to be more likely to have
tighter support for WebSphere? Also, that means two IDEs: one for Java,
one for ILE. Your choice.

But I do take exception to the phrase "pull WDSC". They didn't pull
anything. You can still get the same functionality that was in WDSC,
you need to get RDi and RAD. What IBM did was start charging for it.
They painted themselves into a corner when they gave it away for
nothing, and it's a huge black eye, but it's not pulling support for
anything. They're even letting you use the free version for two more
years, with support.

But if you want to cry bait and switch, I won't argue. I would just ask
you what you think they should have done. They obviously couldn't
continue to give it away for free, so what exactly did you expect them
to do?
