Considering you are calling javamail from RPG, this question might be more appropriate on RPG400-L (http://lists.midrange.com/listinfo/rpg400-l).

I'm gathering there is no stack trace or other detail information available?

I would suggest you set the debug property to see if that helps expose more information about the error.
