Hi
So the system not improved in V5R3
i did some prototype in V5R1, but it was very slow,
and broke many times, not suitable for production
then.

It was long time ago Now i forgot what i did, so was
looking for manual to do so.

I have 3 projects in production where i am using Data
queue, and java program running in subsystem.
This data queue approach really works fine.
The only issue is when this java program is not
running, the RPG program has no clue what is
happening.
I can check the status of this job and if stopped
start from CL,
But where i work, they do not give *JOBCTL authority
to the users, and hence it is not possible to see the
for one person to see if there is a job started by
other person.

Other then this issue, it works fine

I should not waste time trying to get RPG to Java call
working then.

As a curious byseer, is there any who have worked

how well it works in terms of speed,
maintainability (how fragile is
this?) and general usefulness?

I've used it, but don't recommend it.

The cost of starting up a JVM is very high. Plus
only one JVM can be
started per job ... and I think there are
significant issues if you need
a different classpath used (not 100% sure about that
though).

Personally, I prefer to run a server in a batch
subsystem (or on a PC)
that stands ready to answer requests sent to it via
a data queue.

I've got a really nice system setup that uses
externally described data
structures, keyed data queues, and the RecordFormat
object in JT400, to
pass structured bulk information between RPG
programs and Java code.
