Hi

I am As400 Professional. Now I want to learn Java on i-series how to
start , I am confused?

Can anyone help me out?

Prasanna

Hi Prasanna!

The answer depends on how familiar you are with Java already. Java on the
iSeries (or System i, as it is called now) is nearly the same as Java on a
PC, except it's a little more cumbersome.

If you're not already pretty familiar with Java, I would recommend that you
spend time working with it on the desktop to start with. Then use the Java
Toolbox from IBM to access objects on your System i. With the toolbox
(known as JTOpen) you can open files, call programs, even execute SQL
statements on the host.

Once you're familiar with that, you can, if you choose, learn to do the
basic Java steps of editing, compiling and running on the System i. You'll
have to do them in the QShell environment. QShell is a Unix-like shell that
allows you to run Unix commands, including javac and java, inside of i5/OS.
