I was interested in this remark. You're backed up by the section
"Statement Versus PreparedStatement" in this book:

It was written in 2001, and the statistics were for Oracle at that
time. I would be very interested in seeing hard numbers for the
current DB2 drivers. (but not so interested as to do the comparisons
myself).
