Probably more of a JDBC driver issue than a Servlet (application) container issue, although I can't say for sure.

Tomcat, WAS CE or Express and JBoss would all be pretty comparable as servlet/jsp containers IMHO. JDBC and SQL optimization will probably be where you want to spend your time. I am assuming you are writing servlet/jsp based apps. If you are going to use PHP (for example) then JBoss/Tomcat or WAS CE or Express wouldn't be much of an advantage.

(included with i5/OS) and WAS CE (Community Edition), a free
implementation of the Geronimo project, would be IBM supported
alternatives as well. JBOSS would work as well. Tomcat could also fill
