Thanks, but you'll have to be kind to a non-RPG/CL guy. I'm the Java guy and trying to help the iSeries folks call my app from their CL or RPG (to be determined). According to them, they don't think this is what they are looking for. Perhaps you can provide an example? The class is called "jcombine" which needs a classpath of x. The main point of the return code is to inform the calling program whether everything went OK. If the Java program bombs, we need to inform the caller that something bad happened and stop.
