The reason i am casting it because i want to use method conn2.getServerJobIdentifier(); which is method in AS400JDBCConnection and not java.sql.Connection
The AS400JDBCConnectionPool.getConnection() method doesn't return an AS400JDBCConnection necessarily ... it returns a Connection. It could theoretically return it's own private inner-class that implements the Connection interface. You could check to see if the returned connection is an instance of AS400JDBCConnection and upcast it to get the information you are looking for. david
