I did finally get it to work.
I tried Dec(3,2) and Decimal(3,2) and then started reading Redbooks.
The manuals all seemed to indicate that Dec(3,2) should work but I got the 
idea to try Numeric(3,2) and with the Numeric specified it worked.
We've done other SQL Server tables now and if we have any Decimal with 
precision greater than 0 we are forced to use Numeric on the iSeries side. 
I don't know why but it works.

Sweet, now can write RPG programs and use the data from SQL Server as if 
it was a local DB.
