Known in some circles as TCFTC. There are examples in the source code for my JDBC tutorial at http://java.sun.com/developer/onlineTraining/Database/JDBC20Intro/ You can write a wrapper to help ease the pain, similar to what I did with SQLException reporting, but closing is essential, and particularly so in a pooling situation.
