Ok i understand your situation, but why you do not show the list of the files in the folder on the web? You can make the folders in the htdocs directory of your webserver and can reference them in your RPG programm. So you view a page with all links to the documents. If this is too complicated for you the is a much simpler way. You can send the browser a link like this <a href="file://I://Attachments">Attachments</a>. Where I: is the IFS Drive Letter and Attachments is the directory where the attachments stored. So the browser will view a list of the files. So i think there are much easier and cheaper ways to do this. OK, here's my situation...I'm getting ready to roll out an electronic requisition system...for each individual requsition there are attachments that go along with that...these can range from pictures to word documents to excel spreadsheets, etc...what happens is whenever a new req is created, I create a new folder on the IFS with the req number as the folder name (ex. 105373)...I have an option on the main menu of the application to view all attachments for a req number... what I'd like to do is open up windows explorer and have it default to that location on the IFS...for example running the DOS command on a user's PC like so: explorer.exe \\nal820.flora.nal.com\eReqs\attachments\105373\ this application will be accessed via webfacing...and webfacing doesn't like the STRPCO and STRPCCMD commands in a CL...so, I think I'm forced to write Java programs that go around these limitations. If i'm wrong, please tell me...otherwise, I'd appreciate all your help in this matter... Also, I'm a noob at Java so, any tips would be welcome... Thanks for being patient guys...i really appreciate it... Shane Cessna iSeries Programmer iSeries WAS Administrator North American Lighting, Inc. Hi! Can you explain what you want to do? Maybe there is a much easier way to start something on a remote PC then the already discussed solutions. Do you want to open a file like a word document or an excel spreadsheet? So please post what you need an i am sure i can help you. Greetings Artweger GmbH. & Co. I'm not exactly sure which route to take...I've tried the RUNRMTCMD with the PCs IP Address but it fails with CPE3425... also, just as a side note, every PC in the company is going to have to have access to this option...anyone who signs on to the webfaced application will have to be able to open up a specified folder on the IFS... I guess I'm gonna have to go the sockets route...sounds like fun to me... Shane Cessna iSeries Programmer iSeries WAS Administrator North American Lighting, Inc. And if you wanted to take out all of the learning curve of doing raw sockets (and all the "fun" that comes with it) you could just install a stripped down version of Tomcat on the PC. That way all you would need to do is write a regular old servlet that would listen for requests. Tomcat may be overkill for your situation though so make sure there is a good enough reason to load it. Speaking of your situation, I have always wondered how technologies like GoToMyPc.com and MyWebExPc.com work? I know they are running a Java client that some how broadcasts its IP address to a main server which then allows me to connect to my home PC from where ever I am. If you know the IP of the PC invoking the application, you should be able to execute a RUNRMTCMD. > David, what do you mean by "write a server"...meaning create a server > object?... Well, kind of. I'm specifically talking about writing a server PROGRAM that runs on the PC you want your application to talk to. Assuming it's written in Java (this is the Java 400 list), that program would create a ServerSocket object and listen for a connection. david -- David Gibbs david@xxxxxxxxxxxx Receipt of this message does not grant you permission to send me Unsolicited Commercial Email -- This is the Java Programming on and around the iSeries / AS400 (JAVA400-L) mailing list To post a message email: JAVA400-L@xxxxxxxxxxxx To subscribe, unsubscribe, or change list options, visit: http://lists.midrange.com/mailman/listinfo/java400-l or email: JAVA400-L-request@xxxxxxxxxxxx Before posting, please take a moment to review the archives at http://archive.midrange.com/java400-l.
