I'm not exactly sure which route to take...I've tried the RUNRMTCMD with 
the PCs IP Address but it fails with CPE3425...

also, just as a side note, every PC in the company is going to have to 
have access to this option...anyone who signs on to the webfaced 
application will have to be able to open up a specified folder on the 
IFS...

I guess I'm gonna have to go the sockets route...sounds like fun to me...

And if you wanted to take out all of the learning curve of doing raw 
sockets
(and all the "fun" that comes with it) you could just install a stripped
down version of Tomcat on the PC. That way all you would need to do is 
write
a regular old servlet that would listen for requests.

Tomcat may be overkill for your situation though so make sure there is a
good enough reason to load it.

Speaking of your situation, I have always wondered how technologies like
GoToMyPc.com and MyWebExPc.com work?  I know they are running a Java 
client
that some how broadcasts its IP address to a main server which then allows
me to connect to my home PC from where ever I am.

If you know the IP of the PC invoking the application, you should be able 
to
execute a RUNRMTCMD.

Well, kind of.  I'm specifically talking about writing a server PROGRAM
that runs on the PC you want your application to talk to.   Assuming
it's written in Java (this is the Java 400 list), that program would 
create
a ServerSocket object and listen for a connection.
