just an example, the prepared statement is declared as static:

    static PreparedStatement insertArticle = null;

in the method:

        if ( insertArticle == null ) {
            insertArticle = getSQLConnection().prepareStatement(
                "INSERT INTO " + getSQLTableName() +
                " ( ARTICLENUMBER, SHORTNAME ) VALUES ( ?, ? )" );
        }

        insertArticle.setString( 1,  obj.getNumber() );
        insertArticle.setString( 2, obj.getShortName() );

        insertArticle.executeUpdate();

Or use a good tool like PriDE that do all (
http://sourceforge.net/projects/pride/ ).
