RE: Trying to get output from System.out.

It sounds like the files are in Ascii.  Try FTP'ing them in binary mode to
your PC and reading them there.  If that works, you could set up a
PrintWriter with EBCDIC encoding and use getMessage() (or printStackTrace)
to the Writer.
