Ron

I have also used the ` (tic) to replace ' (apostrophe) when it is just a cosmetic thing (displaying the name O'Malley in a list box for example).

Easiest way to do it is to use:  String strToReplace.replaceAll("'","`");

In your case it would be

street.replaceAll("'","`");

Hope this helps

Ron,

Perhaps you could write a small procedure that will replace any instance of an apostrophe in that field with a &#39; ... maybe you could do this before you concatenate it into the string...

String newStreet = new String();
newStreet = replaceApostrophe(street);
out.println("<a href=\"javascript:customerSearch('ListCustomers?civicno=" + sn.getCivic(p) + "&unit=&street=" + newStreet + "');\"><font size=\"1\"><img src=\"indent.gif\" border=\"0\"\">&nbsp" + sn.getCivic(p) + " " + name + "</font></a><br>");

Yeah that's the problem. Any way I can fix that though? I have to have that apostrophe there....

Ron,

It could be the apostrophe in the field value...I think it's wanting to end the string after BELL...

One last bit of help

I'm almost done my first REAL Java project. Here's my next question. Got the following line of code:

out.println("<a href=\"javascript:customerSearch('ListCustomers?civicno=" + sn.getCivic(p) + "&unit=&street=" + street + "');\"><font size=\"1\"><img src=\"indent.gif\" border=\"0\"\">&nbsp" + sn.getCivic(p) + " " + name + "</font></a><br>");

Works great, except when street is "BELL'S TURN" and my link wants to truncate itself and it can't find the ending ")".
Any ideas?
