We're running V5R1 in our Production environment with JDK 1.4, but we are
also using WebSphere 4 which is tied to 1.3. Our Dev environments are
running V5R2 and WebSphere 4, and 5.1. That means JDK 1.3, and JDK 1.4 as
well. So we have a mix of JVMs.
1/8th the horsepower compared to what? Can we run a Sun JVM on the iSeries
to compare it? Or is this compared to Java running on Linux running on the
iSeries?

Howdy folks! Quick poll: what version of JVM are you currently running
on your iSeries? What's your OS level and what's the highest JVM versin
you have available?
I just found out that the IBM JVMs for the iSeries have basically
sucked. We knew that from our own experience, but the truth is that
those things ran at roughly 1/8th the horsepower of the current 1.4.2
JVM.
I was originally not happy with the idea of getting a standard JVM for
the iSeries and losing some of our platform uniqueness, but if it means
an eight-fold increase in performance, I think I'm okay with it...
