I don't have QIBM_JAVA_PROPERTIES_FILE set. I've just got *java.awt.headless=true *in my */qibm/userdata/java400/SystemDefault.properties* file and that all I can think of relating to awt.

Is Tomcat 5 running other servlets OK? I think Tomcat version 5 requires Java JRE 5.0 unless you take extra steps under Java JRE 1.4+.

When you get it running, be prepared for a performance hit. I'm building some charts using http://jfree.org/jfreechart/index.html . It is much slower on the iSeries than on my PC. I think PASE is the bottleneck.

Thanx, PLA

Yes...I forgot to mention that. PASE is installed.

Actually, I read your post from last February with interest since it
appeared to be a "direct hit" on my problem. How did you get the properties
"to take" and how did you know for sure. I suspect something isn't getting
set.

The InfoCenter listed the places that the JVM properties are set. One
setting mentioned was:

Using the QIBM_JAVA_PROPERTIES_FILE job-level environment variable to point
to a specific properties file. For example: ADDENVVAR ENVVAR(QIBM_JAVA_PROPERTIES_FILE)
VALUE(/qibm/userdata/java400/mySystem.properties)

We don't have that setting here. Do you think that is needed as well?

Thanks,

Do you have "5722SS1 option 33 OS/400 - Portable App Solutions Environment "
installed? I think PASE is a requirement for running headless AWT.

We are running V5R3M0 at a customer site and have a Java servlet that throws
a:

javax.servlet.ServletException: AWT class or API used without specifying property os400.awt.native=true or java.awt.headless=true

Poking around in the archives a bit and reading the info center stuff I think I have set things up OK. I put the following in the \QIBM\UserData\Java400\SystemDefault.properties file and restarted Tomcat
(5.0):

java.version=1.4
java.awt.headless=true

I still get the error. So I have either put the properties in the wrong place or missed something somewhere else. We also installed the PRPQ 5799PTL and have VNC running so I think the xWindows side of things is OK (the servlet renders a Jasper report in PDF format).

Any ideas?
