fyi,
we solved a similar problem by starting a thread that waits for a "shutdown" entry on a DTAQ,
then notify all the active threads that a shotdown request was sent, then each thread ends itself, and at end, when all threads are inactive, the VM end automatically.

No, that doesn't seem to work.  When I try that I get a 'QZRCSRVS' job.

Turns out I'm actually recording the jobid that my process is running in ... so I can just use that to get the job status.
