<Joe in response to Franco> I guess it depnds on the programmer. I bet I can write an MRP generation faster in RPG than you can in Java. Not only that, mine will run faster and be easier to add features. </Joe> That is maybe where we differ. Our next generation of apps most likely isn't going to be green screen which it sounds like that is what you are doing, correct? We have a business requirement to create GUI apps but that doesn't mean we have to have the business logic in Java/.NET. What I am trying to figure out is where to draw the seam in the Java and RPG world. It would be great if I could just do my presentation, business logic, and data layer all in one language but being that RPG doesn't do GUI natively I have been in search of a means to an end in how to structure my software architecture. We have tried PCML and SQL UDF's but those have some limitations that require the RPG programmer to know that Java might call them and thus dictate how the parameters are passed, etc. Sure I could use Jwalk or Web Facing, but that seems like a temporary stepping stone (we have Jwalk in our corporation) to more mature and less maintenance intensive tools. Just some thoughts. Aaron Bartell
