It certainly is, though it depends what exactly you mean by "status".  I
haven't had a good look at the Toolbox recently, but it may be the case
that there are already classes in there which will give the kind of
information you need.  If not, then the place to look is the Work
Management APIs, which you should be able to find in the InfoCenter.
APIs are programs, so you can call them from Java using a ProgramCall
object.
