JDBC version vs JDK -- JAVA400-L

A friend just installed v5r2 and is using JDK 1.3.

However, the version of db2_classes.jar in /QIBM/ProdData/Java400/jdk/ext
supports only JDBC 3.0 which requires JDK 1.4 for, among other things, the
java.sql.Savepoint interface.

Is there a version of db2_classes.jar, or the classes therein, that can be
used with JDK 1.3?  I can't seem to find it.
