It sounds like a memory problem.  Did you run WRKSYSSTS and check your
"current unprotect used" field?  That's the storage that goes up when lots
of "temporary" objects are being created, which includes Java classes.

If that's the case, it definitely implicates the JVM.  Next is to figure out
what the INSERT is doing.  Is this some sort of block insert, or just one
record?
