;-) This is a phenomenon I'm familiar with. I think that this occurs a lot with Java because of the power and flexibility of OO. Lots of times it is hard to see the uses for an object before you have that object. So, you plan out and implement a strategy that you look back on and say, "Oh, sheesh, I could have just..."
The transition from procedural programmer is a little tougher because of this. After all, procedural programmers must plan out the best strategy with the available tools. OO programmers are supposed to invent the tools and base the strategy on them.
